The senior physicians in each department in hospitals and some other medical facilities are commonly referred to as chief physicians. They take on special technical, personnel and economic responsibility for their department, which requires special qualifications. The chief physician's visit is also part of their duties and treatment by the chief physician is part of the range of services offered by many private health insurance companies. Such treatment by the statutory health insurance companies, however, does not cover such chief physician treatment. For a separate charge, treatment by the chief doctor is often also offered to statutory insured patients. (fp)
